A signal like experience on Whatsapp is on the way.

According to WABeTaInfo WhatsApp is planning on introducing usernames to replace phone numbers for all the right reasons.

The good thing is that only knowing your username is not enough for unknown users to contact you. To achieve this you need a pin. This is likely to be a 4 digit number.

To reach you, users will need to know your secret pin and may never come accros it to begin with, maybe! This procedure shouldn’t initially influence your current chats. This will make it super easy for people to get accostumed to the new trend.

On that note this isn’t yet confirmed at least not by Meta "once upon a time just Facebook" but a rumor. According to WabetaInfo this will not go live anytime soon. It would be great if we had such an awesome surprise like very soon, wouldn’t it? Chances are we may only benefit from this in 2025. An interesting way to combat Spam.
