Murder on Valentine’s Day: Paralympic Star Oscar Pistorius
The rise and fall of Oscar Pistorius, from a sprinter to a killer.
South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, model, and law student Reeva Steenkamp. The crime took place back in February 2013. Pistorius shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp several times through a bathroom door in his home in Pretoria.
In 2015, he was found guilty of culpable homicide. He received a five-year prison sentence for culpable homicide and a three-year suspended prison sentence for another endangerment conviction. The 29-year-old (at the time) killed his girlfriend with four shots from a 9mm pistol at his home in Pretoria.
Why?
Oscar claimed he didn’t check to see whether his girlfriend was next to him when he woke up. He thought an intruder was in the house. Shots were fired multiple times and Reeva Steenkamp was killed. Is that the real reason behind this act?
Prosecutors argued during the six-month trial that Pistorius deliberately shot Reeva four times through a locked door where she was hiding after a fight. Pistorius argues that he believed an intruder was inside the bathroom.
